Reno Aces News Release

RENO, Nev.-Chris Roberson fell just a double shy of the cycle and lifted the Reno Aces to a 5-3 victory over the Sacramento River Cats Wednesday afternoon at Raley Field.

The Aces fell behind early, after Sacramento pushed across a run in each of the first two frames. But Reno fired back in a big way, scoring four times in the third and adding one more in the fourth to take lead it would not relinquish.

Reno starter Seth Etherton (3-1) earned the victory for the Aces. Etherton worked 5 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He walked a pair and punched out six. Out of the bullpen, Jose Marte, Jon Coutlangus and Doug Slaten combined to shutout the River Cats over the game's final four innings. Slaten (1) notched his first save since the 2006 season.

The loss fell to Sacramento starter Vince Mazzaro (0-2), who surrendered five runs on eight hits through five innings of work. Mazzaro walked one and struck out six.

At the plate for Reno, Roberson singled in the third, homered in the fourth and tripled in the sixth to fall just a double short of the cycle. Rusty Ryal and Agustin Murillo each chipped in two hits apiece. Luke Carlin hit a two-run, two-out single in the third.

The Aces and River Cats wrap-up the series on Thursday night at Raley Field. Reno sends RHP Billy Buckner (0-1, 6.75 ERA) to the bump, while Sacramento is set to give the nod to RHP Chad Reineke (0-0, 6.75 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT. The action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM.
