Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON – Rox fans are faced with the reality that their team will not be ending this season with the kind of championship celebration that made 2003 so memorable. But their love for the Rox was never more apparent than Monday night, when 2004's biggest crowd, 5,022, filled Campanelli Stadium on Fan Appreciation Night to say goodbye in the Rox home finale.

The Rox rewarded their fans with a spirited, 4-1 win over the Aces.

Mike Henry set the tone for the evening with seven shutout innings, allowing five hits, all singles, while walking just one and striking out four. He improved his record with the Rox to 2-0. Kevin Lynn pitched a scoreless eighth and closer Tony Stutz finished the job, losing the shutout in the ninth on a home run by Chad Gambill to open the inning.

Mitch Sandoval's two-run double in the second staked the Rox to an early lead. The Rox made it 3-0 when Bo Newson singled, went to third on Chad Stewart's double and scored on Mike Torres' sacrifice fly.

The Rox added an insurance run in the eighth when Jake Daubert walked, took second on a single by Saul Bustos, and after an infield out, scored on a wild pitch.

The Rox are off Tuesday, then finish the season on the road with three games each against Quebec and Bangor, beginning Wednesday.

The Rox set a Northeast League attendance record by drawing 203,094 through the gates of Campanelli Stadium this season, 50,941 more than the previous high set by Quebec last season.
