Little Falls, NJ – The New Jersey Jackals clinched the second half, South Division Championship, while blanking the Bangor Lumberjacks, 6-0.

In the bottom of the third, the Jackals lit up the scoreboard first with a solo homerun off the bat of Jay LaFlair.

Another solo homerun by New Jersey's Darren Ciraco, in the bottom of the fifth, put the Jackals ahead, 2-0

The Jackals made it 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh. With runners at first and third, with one out, LaFlair hit a sacrifice fly into left field, scoring Ciraco.

New Jersey put the game in the bag in the bottom of the eighth. Wady Almonte doubled, scoring Kevin Grijak and Wilton Veras. With one out, Ciraco tallied his second RBI of the game, with a sacrifice fly, making it 6-0 in favor of the Jackals.

Joel Bennett was near perfect in eight innings of work. He blanked the Lumberjacks, while scattering only seven hits. He walked three, and struck out nine, in a win.

Bangor starter Ben Fox pitched rather well in seven innings of work. He gave up five earned runs, on eight hits, while walking two, and fanning six. He picked up a loss in his first start of 2004.

Playoff tickets are currently on sale for the 2004 season. The Jackals have already clinched a spot, after winning the first half South Division Championship. Their opponent is yet to be determined. The ballclub will be playing at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday, September 8, and Thursday September 9, 2004. Both game times are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. If necessary, a deciding game five will be played on Sunday, September 12, 2004, with a 5:05 p.m. start. New Jersey will only host this game if they win the second half. Box seats are $11.00 and reserved seats are $9.00. Lawn seats are priced at $6.00, but will only be sold if both box and reserved seats are sold out. No discounts or coupons will be accepted during the playoffs.

For the Jackals Jay LaFlair went 1-2 with 2 RBI, including a homerun. Wilton Veras was 2-4 with 2 doubles.

For Bangor, Josh Tranum was 2-3.

The game scheduled between the New Jersey Jackals and the Elmira Pioneers on Wednesday, August 4, 2004, was suspended due to rain, entering the bottom of the third inning. New Jersey held a 3-0 lead over Elmira, partially due to a two-run homerun by Jay LaFlair. Because of the rain, the Elmira grounds crew worked till after the scheduled start time to get the field playable. The game did not get underway till after 9:00 p.m. The game will be continued on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at 5:00 p.m., at Yogi Berra Stadium. The first game will begin in the bottom of the third, and will go a full nine innings. The second contest will be seven innings

Come to March of Dimes Night at Yogi Berra Stadium, on Thursday, September 9, 2004. 50 percent of your ticket price will be donated to the March of Dimes. It is also game two of the first round, of the 2004 Northeast League Playoffs. The Jackals' opponent has yet to be determined. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For tickets, please call the Jackals Ticket Office at (973) 746-7434, and make sure to mention the March of Dimes. In addition, all fans who bring their old cell phones, the March of Dimes will recoup $3.00 per phone.

The New Jersey Jackals and the United Way of North Essex are joining together to boost New Jersey non-for-profits. Forty community agencies will be selling Jackals tickets for the upcoming 2004 playoff games, beginning on Wednesday, September 8, 2004, Thursday September 9, 2004, and Sunday, September 12, 2004, if necessary. All of these games will be played at Yogi Berra Stadium. These community agencies will earn a commission for all of their ticket sales. Support your United Away agency, and help them raise money for their worthy causes.

The North Essex Chamber of Commerce will host a Meet, Greet and Barbecue business networking event on Wednesday September 1, 2004, at 6 p.m, at Yogi Berra Stadium. The event is prior to the 7:05 p.m. start of a game between the New Jersey Jackals and the Elmira Pioneers. The $30 fee includes a BBQ buffet at Jackals' Park, a ticket to the ballgame, and unlimited draft beer and soda until the seventh inning. New Jersey Jackals' shortstop Chris Rowan eclipsed the team record for homeruns as a member of the ballclub, on Friday, August 7, 2004. Rowan hit his 29th as a member of the Jackals, and 17th of the 2004 season, eclipsing Travis Bailey's record of 28. On Thursday August 12, 2004, Rowan also broke the league record for grand slams in a season. In an 8-5 win over Quebec, Rowan belted his third grand slam of 2004 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

On Tuesday, August 3, 2004, Jackals' starting pitcher Aaron Myers was named the Rawlings Northeast League Player of the Month. Myers went 4-1 in the month of July, with a 1.06 ERA. In 34 innings of work, Myers scattered 29 hits while striking out 38. Also during the month, Myers tossed a complete game, seven inning shutout of the Elmira Pioneers, in which he struck out eleven batters. At the time of the award, Myers was second in the Northeast League in strikeouts with 75.
