Brockton Rox News Release
LYNN, MA - Holding a 4-2 lead heading to the bottom of the ninth inning, the Brockton Rox were unable to close out North Shore as the Spirit rallied for three runs to win 5-4 in front of 3,075 at Frasier Field in Lynn, MA. The Rox have dropped four straight games and now have lost eight one-run games in the first 25 contests. 2B Mike Torres had four hits for the Rox in the loss, and C Jason Radwan extended his hitting streak to 10 games with an RBI single in the fifth. RHP John Boker picked up a no-decision for Brockton, despite allowing just two runs (one earned) in 6.1 innings. The Rox fall to 10-15 on the season while the Spirit now stand at 14-8.
After a scoreless first two frames, Brockton struck for two runs in the third inning. 2B Matt Brunson drove home the first run of the game with a double down the right field line, plating Torres and moving SS Eugene Julien to third base. Later in the frame with the bases loaded, 3B Zach Strong drove in Julien with a fielder's choice grounder to make it 2-0. In the fifth frame, the Rox Radwan extended his hitting streak to 10 games with an RBI single to left, giving the Rox a 3-0 lead.
North Shore chipped away with runs in the sixth and seventh, but a RHP Eric Drown wild pitch allowed 1B Jake Daubert to score, giving the Rox a two-run lead at 4-2. RHP Jon Koch entered the game in the ninth and allowed a pair of walks and a single to load the bases. With one out, 2B Ryan Bethel's third hit of the game, a two-run single to center, tied the game. After a Torres error loaded the bases, Koch got a fly ball out for the second out of the inning, holding the winning run at third. However, 3B Vic Davilla ripped an 0-1 pitch to right for the game winning hit, giving the Spirit the second straight win over the Rox.
Tomorrow the Rox look to end the skid with LHP Rolando Viera (1-3, 3.70 ERA) on the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
