Brockton Rox News Release
West Haven, CT (June 2, 2007) - New Haven County 3B Junior Zamora hit two HR and drove in five runs as the Cutters topped the Brockton Rox 10-7 for their first win over the Rox in six games this season. The Cutters scored in six of eight offensive innings, handing the Rox just their third loss of the year in nine games. RHP Gary Galvez took the loss on the hill for Brockton. 1B Francisco Lebron reached base in all five of his plate appearances including a double and three walks. 2B Eugene Julien had his first HR of the season, a two- run shot in the third inning.
After the Rox scored a run on a RHP Joslin Ramirez wild pitch in the first, the Cutters responded with a two-run HR off Zamora's bat. Julien's third inning shot gave the Rox a 3-2 lead, but it was short- lived. Zamora doubled home two runs in the bottom of the frame, putting the Cutters in front 4-3 in the third. The teams traded runs in the fifth as Zamora hit his second HR of the game in the bottom of the inning.
In the sixth inning facing Galvez, Cutters' DH Mike Leonard delivered with a two-run single to put the Cutters up 8-5. New Haven County added runs in the eighth and ninth, and while the Rox plated two in the ninth with the help of three walks, they were unable to complete the comeback.
Sunday at Campanelli Stadium the Rox send LHP Donavon Hendricks (0-1, 3.38 ERA) to the hill against Cutters LHP Jeff Farrell (0-1, 35.10 ERA) in the series finale. The Rox open a four-game set with the Worcester Tornadoes on Monday at Campanelli Stadium.
