Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Worcester, MA -- The Worcester Tornadoes ran out of magic, leaving the the tying run on 3rd base in the bottom of the 9th inning and falling to the Quebec Capitales, 5-4, at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field tonight.

For the second night in a row, the game was a back and forth affair. The Capitales jumped out on top first for the 6th straight time vs. Worcester with single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings to go up 2-0. But the Tornadoes came right back with a run in the 3rd and two more in the 4th, on Mike MacMillan's first professional home run, a 2-run shot to leftfield off lefty Kevin Beavers that made it 3-2, Worcester.

But Quebec touched up Tornadoes starter Alex Pena for two runs in the the 6th (Mike Galloway RBI triple and Ryan Lehr sacrifice fly) to reclaim the lead at 4-3. It stayed that way until the bottom of the 8th inning, when an error by Quebec shortstop Takayoshi Uchida allowed the tying run to score.

However, Reid Willet (0-2), who cruised through the 7th and 8th innings served up a two-out solo home run to rightfielder Scotty Martin that put Quebec on top 5-4 and would prove to be the difference in the game. The Tornadoes had runners at the corners with two outs in the bottom of the 9th but Patrick Perry grounded out to second base to end it.

The Tornadoes will shoot for a split in their four-game series with the Capitales when they conclude their first homestand of the season on Sunday afternoon. Lefty Mike Meagher is scheduled to start for the Tornadoes and he will be opposed by Quebec righty Michel Simard. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05pm.
