Sussex Skyhawks News Release

The Sussex Skyhawks dropped their sixth game in a row as they fell to the Can-Am Grays 5-0 on Saturday night. The Skyhawks offense once again was non-existent as they failed to have a runner cross home plate. The Skyhawks stranded 8 runners over 9 innings while only having 5 base hits. Vince Davis picked up his first loss in his Skyhawk debut going 4 innings while allowing 3 earned runs. Craig Snipp gets his first win of the 2007 season moving to 1-0. Snipp pitched 6 innings while allowing 0 runs on 3 hits.

The Grays once again scored in the first inning as Pendergrass started the inning off with a lead off double and came around to score on a ground out to the shortstop by Gabriel. The run would prove to be all that the Grays needed to take the second game of the three game series. The Grays scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning as Gabriel picked up his second RBI of the night and Monjaras added a RBI triple to score Sheldon Catchot. The Grays would add another pair of runs in the 7th inning to secure their victory.

The Skyhawks could not find their rhythm at the plate once again. Ron Perodin was the only Skyhawk batter to have a multi-hit game. The 4th through 6th batters went a combine 0-9 at the plate in the Skyhawks loss. Jared Lemieux had a pinch hit double in the 9th inning but was stranded on third when Mike Scanzano grounded out to the shortstop.

The Skyhawks look to salvage the third and final game of the three game series with the Grays when they send Ryan Dittfurth to the mound in the series finale. The Grays will send right-hander Dustin Nielsen as they look to sweep the Skyhawks. The Skyhawks fall to 1-8 on the 2007 season while the Grays move to 6-3.
