Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Worcester, MA -- The Quebec Capitales took advantage of two costly Tornadoes errors to score five unearned runs and turn a close game into a runaway 9-4 victory over Worcester at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field tonight.
The Tornadoes held a 2-1 lead heading into the 5th inning, courtesy of Andrew Wishy's first Tornadoes home run, a two-run blast to left-center off Karl Gelinas (1-0) in the 2nd inning. But D.J. Mattox (0-1) allowed an RBI single to Eddie Lantigua to tie it 2-2 in the 5th. Lantigua then stole 2nd, moved to 3rd on an infield groundout and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch, making it 3-2, Quebec.
The Capitales would blow things open with three in the 6th and three more in the 7th off Chis Shank, using errors by Dominic Ramos and Euvi Solano to score the six runs, five of which were unearned. Ramos would hit a two-run home run in the 9th, but that was as close as the Tornadoes would come as they fell to 0-4 vs. Quebecand 2-5 on the season by the final of 9-4.
The Tornadoes will try to even the series at one win apiece when they send righty Matt Weagle to the mound tomorrow night. Quebec will counter with righthander Keith Dunn. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
