Brockton Rox News Release
BROCKTON â The Rox completed their weekend sweep of the Aces with a decisive 8-3 win Sunday afternoon, rolling through their 10-game homestand with a 9-1 record.
Jake Daubert went 4-for-5 in the game, including two home runs for a Northeast League-leading nine round trips, and four RBI, raising his average 29 points, to .318. His four hits in the game ties a Rox record, most recently tied Saturday night by Nestor Smith, who extended his hitting streak Sunday to 14 games, the current NEL high.
The Rox opened the scoring in the second when Daubert tripled to left and scored on a Mike Torres (2-for-3) single to right.
They added four in the third when Abner Arroyo (1-for-4) singled and Brian Jones walked, and Saul Bustos's fly ball to short right fell in for a hit, scoring Arroyo. Daubert then hit his first home run of the day, a three-run shot to right, bringing in Jones and Bustos ahead of him, putting the Rox up, 5-0.
The Aces got two back in the third and a run in the fourth, cutting the Rox lead, 5-3.
The Rox put three more runs on the board in the fifth. Daubert's second homer of the game, a solo blast to right, was followed by consecutive walks to Torres, Brett Winn, and Hector Henriquez, and a Chad Stewart single, driving in Torres and Winn, giving the Rox the 8-3 lead that would stand up.
Derek Andersen (3-1) picked up the win for the Rox, going seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, allowing no walks, and striking out four. Matt Bennett and Tony Stutz each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
The Rox (19-5) travel to Elmira for three games with the Pioneers beginning Monday, before returning to Campanelli on Friday for a six-game homestand.
