Les Capitales salvage third game of series

Little Falls, NJ – Les Capitales used timely hitting and strong pitching late, to take the final game of a three game set from the Jackals, by a score of 4-3

The Jackal bats continued to pump out the runs in their first at bats of the ballgame. John Anderson singled, followed by Craig Conway being hit by a pitch. After Kevin Grijak reached on an error to load the bases, Wilton Veras singled, pushing across two for the early lead.

In the bottom of the second, New Jersey would continue their success at home. Rick Elder led off with a double, setting up for an RBI triple by Alberto Vasquez. The run gave the Jackals a 3-0 advantage.

Quebec would cut down the Jackal lead in the third. With the bases loaded, Sam Bozanich singled, scoring one. Two batters later, Shane Hopper sacrifice flied out to left field, scoring Olivier Lepine, to make it a 3-2 ballgame.

In their next at bats, Quebec would surge ahead. Lee Delfino singled. With one out, Lepine hit a two run homer to left, putting the Quebec Les Capitales ahead 4-3. The homerun was Lepine's fourth of the season.

The New Jersey bats would quiet down after that point. Quebec pitching held the Jackals to only two hits in the final four innings of the ballgame.

Starter Brad Whitworth pitched six innings for the Jackals. He allowed seven hits, three earned runs, and struck out four batters. He was awarded the loss.

Quebec starting pitcher Chuck Crumptom pitched seven solid innings, giving up eight hits, leading to three runs, but only two earned. He picked up the win. Les Capitales reliever Alex Santos pitched the eighth and ninth innings for the save.

Wilton Veras was 2-4 with 2 RBI, for the Jackals.

For Quebec, Olivier Lepine went 2-4 with a homerun and two RBI.

The New Jersey Jackals will be on the road from June 22, 2004 thru June 27, 2004. They will take on the North Shore Spirit, and the Brockton Rox, both in three game sets.
