
Spirit Let One Slip

Lynn, MA â The North Shore Spirit lost 6-5 in the final game of the series against the Elmira Pioneers at the New Fraser Field.
The Spirit jumped on Elmira starter Joe Van Gorder in the first inning. Marcos Agramonte leadoff with a triple and scored when Nilson Teilon lifted a sacrifice fly to center. In the third, Brian Macchi reached on an error and scored two when Agramonte doubled to center. The Spirit would make it 3-0 on a Teilon RBI groundout. Elmira got on the board in the sixth, narrowing North Shore's lead to two.
The Spirit would tack on a pair in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Teilon reached on an error by the shortstop. After a Vic Davilla intentional walk, Frank Charles plated Teilon with a sac fly. Joe Hastings then laced an RBI single, scoring Davilla and giving the Spirit a 5-1 lead.
The score was 5-4 North Shore heading to the ninth after the Pioneers scored three run in the eighth inning. Elmira would punch across two runs off Spirit closer Ryan Bicondoa to take the lead 6-5. Yuji Nerei had an RBI double and Jobu Morita drove in the winning run with a one-out single.
Bicondoa (1-1) got up the loss for the Spirit, his first of the season. Curt Borland picked up the win for Elmira and Matt Elfeldt got the save.
The Spirit begin a three-game homestand on Tuesday when the New Jersey Jackals come to town. Tuesday's game begins at 7:05 pm, gates open at 5:30 pm.
