Brockton Rox News Release

NASHUA, NH - OF Joe Hough hit a two-run homerun in the top of the ninth inning, but the Brockton Rox stranded the tying run at second base in falling to the Nashua Pride 5-4 on Sunday afternoon at Holman Stadium. Rox RHP Brad Guy went the distance; allowing five runs on thirteen hits through eight innings of work. He fell to 4-3 with the loss.

Nashua opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by 2B Tom Creighton. Brockton answered back in the top of the second when SS Mike Scanzano singled home LF Simon Williams to tie the game at one run apiece. The game remained knotted until the Pride began to swing the bats in the fifth inning. 3B Andy Dillard singled to lead off the inning and later scored on an RBI single by CF Elliott Ayala. After Ayala's single, RF Jason Bass hit his second homerun of the series; this time a two-run shot to give the Pride the 4-1 advantage. Nashua added one more run in the sixth on a sacrfice fly by Dillard.

Trailing 5-1 in the eighth, Rox C Jason Radwan singled home DH Guye Senjem to cut the lead to 5-2. The Rox loaded up the bases against Pride reliever Aric LeClair, and manager Butch Hobson was forced to bring in closer Derrick Depriest. Depreist threw two pitches in the eighth, forcing a ground ball double play to escape further damage.

Depriest had a little more trouble in the ninth. After Williams led off with a single, Hough followed two batters later with his fourth homerun of the season-his first since July 8th. SS Eugene Julien then singled and moved to second on a groundout by Senjem. However Depriest got 1B Francisco Lebron to fly out to end the threat, and the game.

Guy was coming off back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Lebron and Radwan-who both had 12-game hitting streaks snapped yesterday-each had hits in today's game.

The Rox turn their attention to the Quebec Capitales with a 7:05 contest at Campanelli Stadium on Monday. Monday is Support Our Troops Night at Campanelli Stadium.
