Veras blast urges Jackals to much needed win

Little Falls, NJ It took three games, but the New Jersey Jackals finally put up a significant amount of runs versus the Worcester Tornadoes, as they salvaged the final game of a four game series with a 6-3 victory.

The New Jersey Jackals were the first to pick up a run, and it came in the second inning. An RBI double by Alex Fernandez scored Joe Mihalics.

With the 1-0 cushion, Joel Bennett cruised through his first two innings of work, and battled out of a jam in the third. Through three innings, he allowed only one hit, while striking out five. But the fourth inning was a completely different story. Worcester scored three runs to jump ahead. Two runs crossed on a Jabe Bergeron double, and he scored eventually scored on an error by shortstop Guillermo Reyes. The inning made it a 3-1 Tornado lead.

But the Jackals evened up the score in the next half inning. During the top of the fifth, a two RBI double by Guilleremo Reyes did the trick for New Jersey.

Two innings later, the Jackals re-gained the lead. Wilton Veras blasted a two-out, three-run homerun off of Worcester reliever Mike Meagher making it a 6-3 Jackal advantage.

Worcester Mike Meagher suffered the loss in just one relief inning. Starter Matt Weagle received a no decision.

Joel Bennett earned the win for the New Jersey Jackals. He struck out 10 in seven innings of work. He surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. His record improved to a perfect 5-0. Jason Wylie pitched a perfect ninth inning to collect his fifth save of the season.
