
Pride hold on for weekend split, downing Brockton, 5-4

(Nashua, NH, July 30, 2006) The Nashua Pride earned a series split with the Brockton Rox, hanging on for a 5-4 victory Sunday at Historic Stadium. The game was witnessed by 1,334 fans on Rico Petrocelli Appreciation Day and Family Faith Sunday.
The Pride took the lead in the first inning off Brockton starter and loser Brad Guy (4-3). LF Sean Dobson opened the inning with a single to right. Dobson moved to second when CF Elliott Ayala was hit by a pitch and then scored on a two out single by 2B Tom Creighton.
Brockton tied it in the second inning off Pride starter Jarrad Levergne (3-4). After Levergne retired the first two Rox hitters in the inning, LF Simon Williams doubled and scored on a single by SS Mike Scanzano.
Nashua took the lead to stay in the fifth inning off Guy. 3B Andy Dillard opened the uprising with an infield hit, moved to second on a bunt sacrifice by Dobson and scored on a single by Ayala. With the Pride on top, 2-1, RF Jayson Bass followed with an opposite field home run to left giving Nashua a 4-1 advantage. Nashua went on to make it 5-1 in the fifth on a Dillard sacrifice fly scoring DH Mark Hamilton who started the inning with a single. Hamilton had three hits on the afternoon.
The Rox made it close. Brockton scored a run in the eighth inning off Nashua reliever Jamie Baker as C Jason Radwan's single scored DH Guye Senjem to make it 5-2. After Pride reliever Aric LeClair walked Brockton 3B Mike Torres, Derrick DePriest emerged from the Nashua bullpen to get Brockton CF Brad Rosenblat to bounce into an inning ending double play.
Brockton managed to make it a one-run contest in the ninth inning when RF Joe Hough belted a one-out, two-run homer off DePriest. The Pride closer then settled down to get the final two outs to record his fifth save of the season.
Lavergne went five and one-third innings for Nashua, allowing one earned run on six hits, walking two and striking out six for his first victory as a member of the Pride.
Guy went eight innings for the Rox. He surrendered 13 hits and five runs, all earned. The former Nashua righthander did not walk a batter and struck out three.
Following a day off on Monday, the Pride will open a three-game series on Tuesday night with the North Shore Spirit at Historic Holman Stadium. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 7:05.
