Brockton Rox News Release

(Brockton, Mass. - July 17, 2011) - The Brockton Rox (1-0, 27-20) opened up the second half with a bang Sunday evening at Campanelli Stadium, pounding out 14 runs on 21 hits against the New York Federals (0-1, 10-38) on the way to a 14-4 victory.

The Feds struck first, scoring twice on a two-run single from Brad Jackson against Julian Sampson (4-2) in the top of the first inning. Sampson settled down in the following frames, allowing just one more run on a wild pitch in the fourth, while lasting seven innings in the winning effort.

The Rox offense clicked on all cylinders starting in the third frame, plating four runs against New York starter Jim Schult (0-1). All of the runs in the inning were unearned as Trey Hernandez, Melvin Falu and Chris Grossman each collected a two-out RBI after Dominic Ramos had reached on an error to open the inning.

The sixth inning marked the end of the road for Schult as Brachold's three-run blast chased the righthander with no outs in the inning. Schult lasted five frames allowing eight runs (four earned) on 14 hits, while walking two and striking out one in the loss.

Next Mike Ahearn entered the ballgame with the score 8-3, only to receive a rude welcoming in his Can-Am League debut. In total the Rox sent eleven men to the plate in the sixth, scoring six runs as back-to-back doubles from Shawn Williams and Ryan Royster knocked home another three in addition to the Brachold homer.

With the game already out of reach, the Rox tacked on three more runs in the eighth, including a lead off home run by Royster, tying him for the league lead with Worcester's Nick Salotti, who also has 13 bombs.

Mike Torres and Williams each had a game high four hits in the affair, while Brachold and Hernandez each drove in a game high three runs.

The week long homestand continues Monday night as Robert Bono (3-0, 3.83) takes the hill against Michael Streaman (1-3, 5.68) in game two. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
