July 17, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Worcester mounted its biggest comeback of the season in game one of the second half, beating Newark 12-10 on Sunday afternoon. The Tornadoes trailed 6-0 after one inning, thanks to a Daryle Ward grand slam and a couple of other RBI base hits, but piled nine runs on in the game's final three innings.

Mike Gedman picked up his first professional victory in the win, going two innings, striking out five, walking one, and allowing one run on one hit. Rick Asadoorian earned his seventh save of the year with a scoreless ninth while walking two.

Newark closer Mikey Mehlich was tagged with the loss and a blown save, giving up four Worcester runs over 1.1 innings. Mehlich walked three batters and three Tornadoes notched hits against him, while four runs (all earned) scored in his time on the mound.

The Tornadoes sent their first run and their game-winning run home thanks to Brendon Kelliher, who plated both (and then some) with a pair of RBI singles. Kelliher's first of two hits came in the second, scoring Alex Trezza. His second allowed both Nick Salotti (the game-tying run) and Cameron Monger (the game-winning run) to come home.

Salotti hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning as part of a five-run frame for Worcester, with his 14th round-tripper putting the Tornadoes on top 8-7. The Bears took the lead back in the bottom half of the seventh with a Burt Reynolds two-run homer.

In all, there were three lead changes in the game, all coming from the seventh on. Chris Colabello extended his multi-hit streak to five games, and Kelliher has two hits in his first four as a Tornadoes outfielder.

Game two of the four-game set is Monday at 11:05am, with Tuesday's and Wednesday's games both starting at 5:35pm.
