Worcester 12, Newark 10

Designated hitter Nick Salotti hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead from Newark, and Worcester continued to battle back to beat the Bears 12-10 at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Newark scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning with the help of a grand slam from first baseman Daryle Ward, and the Bears added one more in the third to take a 7-3 lead against the Tornadoes. After losing its lead in the top of the seventh, Newark took it back in the bottom of the inning when left fielder Burt Reynolds hit a two-run homer. In the top of the ninth, the Tornadoes came back once and for all with a four-run inning as it cruised to a win in the first game of a four game series. Four different Tornadoes had multiple hits in the game, and Salotti led with one hit, two runs and four RBI. Right fielder Danny Santiesteban led Newark with three hits, two runs and one RBI, and catcher Eric McGee chipped in three hits, one run and one RBI. Michael Gedman, now 1-1 on the season, earned the win by allowing one hit, one run and striking out five in two innings pitched.

Quebec 14, Pittsfield 6

Quebec had three four-run innings and racked up 15 hits en route to a 14-6 win against Pittsfield at Wahconah Park. Four different Capitales batted in a run in the top of the second inning, and Quebec scored four more in the top of the fourth to take an 8-2 lead against the Colonials. Second baseman Peter Fatse singled to drive in a run for Pittsfield in the bottom of the inning, and the Colonials added three more in the bottom of the sixth when left fielder Billy Mottram hit a home run. Quebec sealed the deal with four more runs in the top of the eighth. Center fielder Goefrey Tomlinson led Quebec with four hits, two runs and two RBI in six at-bats, and catcher Patrick DAoust chipped in three hits, three runs and three RBI. Center fielder Quentin Davis and third baseman Johnny Welch were the only Colonials to register more than one hit, and Welch led with two hits and two runs in three at-bats. John Mariotti, now 5-0 on the season, earned the win by allowing six hits, six runs and striking out four in six innings pitched.
