Can-Am League Game Recaps
July 17, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Brockton 14, New York 4
Brockton recorded 21 total hits against New York as the Rox beat the Federals 14-4 at Campanelli Stadium. New York got on the board first when third baseman Brad Jackson hit a two-RBI single to center field but in the bottom of the third, Brockton scored four runs to take the lead. Each team scored in the fourth inning before the Rox had another big inning in the sixth when right fielder Keith Brachold hit a three-run homer and second baseman Shawn Williams and left fielder Ryan Royster combined for three more RBI. The Rox sealed the deal with three runs in the eighth, and pinch hitter Mike Levy scored one in the ninth for the Federals. Third baseman Mike Torres led Brockton with four hits, three runs and one RBI in six at-bats, and Williams chipped in four hits, two runs and two RBI. New York left a total of nine men on base and committed five errors, and the Federals were led offensively by left fielder Dan Barbero's three hits. Julian Sampson, now 4-2 on the season, earned the win by allowing six hits, three runs and striking out one in seven innings pitched.
Rockland 2, New Jersey 1
Catcher Scott Clement and left fielder Jeremy Slayden each batted in a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to help Rockland edge New Jersey 2-1 at Provident Bank Park. After three scoreless frames, the Jackals got on the board first in the top of the fourth when catcher Myron Leslie singled to bat in shortstop Mike DeJesus. The inning ended in the following at-bat, when designated hitter Mike Jones flied out to center field. In the bottom of the inning, Clement and Slayden had back-to-back RBI singles to give Rockland the lead, but the inning ended moments later on a double play. The remainder of the game was a pitcher's duel, as there were only five hits during the next four and a half innings, and neither team scored again. Shortstop Mike Richard was the only Boulder to record multiple hits in the game, and he led Rockland with two hits and one run in four at-bats. Jones led New Jersey with two hits in four at-bats. Bobby Blevins, now 5-3 on the season, earned the win by allowing four hits, one run and striking out four in eight innings pitched.
