Brockton Rox News Release

Little Falls, NJ (June 30, 2007) -- New Jersey RHP Mike Vicaro took a perfect game into the sixth inning and allowed jut one run on three hits over seven innings as the Jackals beat the Rox 3-1 at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, NJ. Each team has won one game of the series. 1B Francisco Lebron had one of five Rox hits in the loss, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. RHP Mike McTamney delivered a quality start, allowing just three runs in 6.1 innings but taking his fourth loss of the season. CF Joe Hough had two hits for Brockton. The Rox are now 16-19 after the loss and will play the rubber game of the three-game series Sunday at 5:05 PM.

McTamney escaped jams throughout, but the Jackals struck for a run in the fifth. 1B Clyde Williams ripped his third hit of the ninth, a single up the middle scoring RF Francisco Leandro to make it 1-0 New Jersey. Vicaro retired the first 15 batters of the game, but hit leadoff hitter RF Tony Gonzalez in the sixth inning. Gonzalez was forced to leave the game with an injured hand. Later in the frame, CF Joe Hough broke up the no-hitter with a bloop double to center, but was stranded on base as the Rox failed to score.

In the top of the seventh, the Rox finally broke the scoreless drought. LF Jeremy Coronado led off with a single against Vicaro, and after a single by C Jason Radwan and DH Guye Senjem reaching after being hit by a pitch, SS Fredy De La Cruz drove home a run with a sacrifice fly to tie the game. The tie lasted one batter into the bottom of the seventh, as Jackal LF Jud Thigpen homered off McTamney, and the Jackals got an insurance run later in the inning to make it 3-1.

Lebron reached on an infield single in the ninth and Radwan drew a walk to put the tying run on base against New Jersey closer LHP Rusty Tucker, but Tucker retired the next three in order for his ninth save. The Rox will send RHP John Kelly (2-1, 1.76 ERA) Sunday in the 5:05 affair against the Jackals. The Jackals have yet to announce a starter.
