Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (September 3, 2008) - The Brockton Rox have fired Manager Chris Miyake after the team finished the 2008 season 47-47 and failed to reach the Can-Am League playoffs for the second consecutive season. The Rox were 139-140 in Miyake's three-year tenure as manager.

"I really appreciate the effort that Chris has made in his six seasons here, but it was definitely time for a change," said Rox owner Van Schley. "This was far too talented a team to end up with a .500 record. I just don't feel that the leadership was there."

"After our disappointing season last year, we had high expectations for this season," Schley pointed out. "When you look at our numbers you can see we worked very hard to put together a group of quality players and our fans expect and deserve more."

The Rox were second in the league in team batting average (.285) and second in team ERA (4.03).

Miyake came to Brockton as the team's hitting coach in 2003. He occupied that role until his promotion to manager in 2006 guiding the team to a 50-42 record and a Can-Am League Championship Series appearance which the Rox lost to the Quebec Capitales 3-2. Brockton finished nine games under .500 in 2007 (42-51) and 47-47 in 2008.

An extensive search for a manager has begun and there is no timetable as of yet to announce a replacement.
