Atlantic City Surf News Release
Durham, N.C. - The Can-Am League announced its 2008 post-season all-star team on Wednesday, as voted upon by league members and media.
Atlantic City's Anthony Granato was named the league's all-star shortstop. The native of Toronto finished the season with a .322 average, 62 RBI and a team-high 14 home runs, 11 of which came during the month of August. He was also among the league leaders in most offensive categories, including stolen bases (31 - 2nd), runs scored (83 - 2nd) doubles (28 - tie-3rd), triples (4 - tie-4th), on-base percentage (.429 - 4th), and extra-base hits (46 - tie-3rd). He was also named the league's Player of the Month for August, and Player of the Week for August 25-31.
2008 marked the fifth professional season for the 27-year-old, and his second in Atlantic City. Signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Chicago Cubs in 2004, he spent two years in the Cubs' system and one in the Colorado Rockies' organization. Last season, Granato hit .329 with the Surf, fifth-best in the league, and led the league in runs scored (77) and on-base percentage (.458).
