AUGUSTA, N.J. - Chris Colabello's solo home run with two out in the top of the ninth sent Worcester to a 3-2 victory over Sussex in the first game of the Can Am league playoff series at Skylands Park.

Sussex starter Kyle Ruwe was cruising and needed just one more out in the top of the ninth when Colabello drilled his home run to left. That was the only earned run Ruwe gave up in his 8.2 innings of work. He gave up six hits, while walking one and striking out five. Eddie Pena picked up the win in relief for Worcester. Worcester starter Tom Cochran gave up two runs (0 earned) on five hits over seven hits and did not factor into the decision.

Worcester broke open a scoreless game in the top of the fourth when catcher Alex Trezza smoked a two-run double to right center, scoring B.J. Weed and Chris Colabello and giving the Tornadoes a 2-0 lead. Both runs were unearned since they scored with two outs after a Sussex error.

Sussex tied it 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh when a Ron Perodin single drove in Alex Frazier. Kevin Rios followed with a sacrifice fly to left field to score Yohanny Valera with the tying run.

Worcester and Sussex return to action at Skylands Park on Thursday for Game Two of the best-of-five series. The teams will travel to Worcester for Game Three on Friday and will play Games 4 and 5 on Saturday and Sunday in Worcester, if necessary.
