Bergeron And Geiger Named On All-Star Team

(OTTAWA, ON) September 3, 2008 - The Can-Am League officials announced today that Ottawa Rapidz, Jabe Bergeron has been named the Designated Hitter of the Year while Kyle Geiger has been voted the Catcher of the Year as part of the 2008 Can-Am League All-Star Team.

In 91 games, Bergeron finished second in the league with 29 doubles, third in batting average (.354), on-base percentage (.430), runs scored (78), fourth in RBI (69), hits (124) and slugging percentage (.560). The Keene, N.H. native was a two-time Player of the Week, as well of the Can-Am League Player of the Month in July. "It's definitely a great honour," mentioned Bergeron. "I worked hard all summer and it's rewarding to finish a long season with that type of recognition."

The 26-year-old was a non-drafted signee of the New York Mets in June of 2004. He spent a little over a season in the Mets system before joining Elmira of the Can-Am League in 2005. Bergeron spent the 2006 season with Nashua and Worcester and in 2007 with Sussex.

In 92 games, Geiger finished the season with the 10th best batting average at .319, along with 60 runs scored, 114 hits, 25 doubles, eight home runs and 48 RBI. He also displayed a .383 on-base percentage and a .462 slugging percentage. "It's a great honour and a privilege to be recognized as the Catcher of the Year," said Geiger. "I couldn't be happier. It shows that hard work pays off."

The Greenwood, Ind. native was 42nd draft pick by the Minnesota Twins in the 2002 MLB Draft. He spent five seasons in their organization playing part of the 2006 season and the 2007 season with New Britain (AA). This was Geiger's first year in independent baseball.
