Rox end streak with a blast

NASHUA, NH -DH Guye Senjem hit a solo homer against Nashua RHP Nick Slack in the top of the tenth inning to break a 3-3 tie and give the Rox a 4-3 win over the Pride in the first game of a three-game series. The win for the Rox broke a four-game losing streak and gave the Rox their first road win of the year. Senjem finished the game 2-5 with a 2B and a HR. RHP Kyle George earned the win with three perfect innings including three straight strikeouts to finish the game. The Rox improve to 5-7 in 2006 while Nashua falls to 4-6.

Brockton took the first lead of the game, scoring a run in the second inning against LHP Raul Valdez. Senjem led off the inning with a double; he has reached in all 12 games for Brockton. With one out in the inning, LF Travis Gulick singled to give the Rox a 1-0 lead. A 2B Mike Scanzano RBI single made it 2-0 in the fourth, and in the fifth, RF Keith Brachold led off the inning with a solo HR to make it 3-0 Brockton.

The Pride tied the game against RHP John Boker in the fifth, getting a key two-run double from DH Glenn Murray. Neither team had a run or a hit from the fifth until Senjem's HR in the tenth. In the bottom of the tenth, George fanned 1B Billy Becher, C Alexis Hernandez, and RF Kade Johnson to finish the game and earn the victory.

Tomorrow the Rox and Pride play the second game of the series, starting at 11:05 AM. RHP Robert Averette (0-2, 4.50 ERA) starts for the Rox against RHP Dan Reichert for Nashua.
