Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (June 25, 2008) - Brockton Rox RHP Stevie Delabar pitched superbly on Wednesday night in the Rox 2-1 win over the Quebec Capitales at Campanelli Stadium. In his second appearance with the Rox, Delabar scattered four hits and allowed one run in seven innings of work en route to his first Rox victory.

Brockton never trailed in the game after taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning off of Capitales' starter RHP Michel Simard. RF Jud Thigpen reached with a two-out walk, and scored all the way from first base on 3B Phillip Cuadrado's double to deep left-centerfield. Quebec answered with a run in the second inning on SS Jean Michel Rochon-Salvas' RBI single. From that point forward, Simard and Delabar matched each other nearly pitch for pitch until the sixth inning.

Again it was Thigpen doing the damage for the Rox. He led of the sixth and hit the second pitch from Simard well beyond the left field wall for his seventh home run of the year. The blast gave the Rox a 2-1 lead.

The Rox turned to the bullpen in the eighth as RHP James Baker retired the side in order, and closer RHP Jerry Dunn entered for the ninth to pick up his eighth save of the season. He also retired the side in order.

The loss for Simard was his first of the season and it was the second game in the series in which the Rox had handed an undefeated Capitales' starter his first loss of the season.

The Rox and Capitales finish the series on Thursday night in a much-anticipated matchup between two of the league's best pitchers. Rox ace RHP John Kelly (2-1, 0.89 ERA) will face Capitales' LHP Eric Cyr (2-1, 2.19 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Campanelli Stadium.
