Surf Bolster Infield With Signing Of McQuigg

Atlantic City, N.J. -- The Atlantic City Surf of the Can-Am League have announced the signing of infielder Carter McQuigg.

A native of Miami, Okla., McQuigg was recently released by the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association, where he hit .200 in six games with the club.

McQuigg spent the 2007 season, his first as a professional, with the St. Joe Blacksnakes of the American Association, appearing in 35 games, mostly at third base. The 23-year-old hit one home run and drove in nine runs.

McQuigg played collegiately at Oral Roberts, where he was a teammate of former Surf outfielder Patrick Warfle. During his senior season, he hit .243 with nine home runs and 24 RBI, appearing in 55 of the team's 57 games. As a junior, he hit .319 with seven home runs as the Golden Eagles went 41-16.

CANSECO-SIKAHEMA FIGHT LESS THAN THREE WEEKS AWAY

Atlantic City, N.J. -- Rapidly approaching is the boxing match between former major leaguer Jose Canseco and NBC-10 sports director and former Philadelphia Eagles punt returner Vai Sikahema, to take place on July 12 at Bernie Robbins Stadium, home of the Atlantic City Surf, at 7:30 p.m.

The fight is one of seven on the evening; other participants in the various bouts will include cruiserweight champion Bobby "The Fighting Gypsy" Gunn, "The Bionic Bull" Brian Cohen, and Travis "The Animal" Thompson.
