Brockton, Mass. - Another solid outing from Rox starter Freddy Flores wasn't enough as Brockton fell to the Quebec Capitales, 5-2, in Can-Am League action at Campanelli Stadium on Friday evening.

It was the third victory of the four-game set for Quebec (23-10), which increases its lead in the standings to three and one-half games over Brockton (19-13) with just over two weeks left in the first half.

The Capitales drew first blood when 2B Josh Colafemina led off the game with a double, went to third on SS Ivan Naccarata's groundout, and scored on DH Sebastien Boucher's single.

The scored stayed 1-0 until the fourth, with Quebec extending its lead on 3B Alex Nunez's two-out solo home run.

Brockton finally pushed a pair of runs home in the seventh, the first one coming on four consecutive singles by SS Dominic Ramos, CF Chris Valencia, 1B Melvin Falu and RF Keith Brachold, whose base knock brought home Ramos. With 3B Philip Cuadrado up next, Valencia scuttled home on a wild pitch by Andy Schon, tying the game at two.

The lead wouldn't last, though, as the Capitales scored three runs in the eighth off of reliever Colin Lynch. Boucher blasted a solo home run with one out, before Nunez doubled and RF Jared Lemieux brought him home with a dinger of his own later inning.

The Rox threatened in the ninth; after Falu grounded out, Quebec reliever Adam Arnold walked three Brockton hitters in a row before being replaced by Sean Gregory, who induced a double-play groundout off the bat of 2B Scott Wearne to end the game.

Nunez and Boucher carried the weight for the Capitales, both going 3-for-4 on the night. Ramos had a pair of hits for the Rox.

Flores put forth a serviceable start for Brockton, giving up the two early runs on five hits in six innings of work, striking out two hitters. Lynch (1-3) was credited with the loss. Quebec starter Karl Gelinas was effective on the Capitales' side, shutting out the Rox over six innings, scattering five hits and fanning three. He received a no-decision for his efforts, however, with the win going to Andrew Albers (2-0).

Brockton takes a quick two-game trip to Sussex on Saturday and Sunday before returning home to face the Skyhawks for three more Monday through Wednesday. Sussex has won five in a row and is currently tied with the Rox for second place. Wayne Lundgren (4-1), currently tied for the all-time wins lead in Rox franchise history with 26, goes for the record tomorrow against Jeff Icenogle (2-0) at 6:35 p.m. at Skylands Park.
