Colonials Down Tornadoes 8-3

Worcester, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials exploded for six runs in the sixth inning to power past the Worcester Tornadoes 8-3 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field on Friday night.

Colonials' starter Trevor Marcotte (2-1) earned the win over seven-plus innings of work, allowing three runs on eight hits, one walk, and four strike-outs. Relievers Shannon Sprouse and Rey Cruz each dealt one scoreless inning to close out the game for the Colonials.

Pittsfield centerfielder Quentin Davis (2-for-3, HR, 3B, 2 RBI) led the way offensively with a triple and his second home run of the season. Shortstop Matt Nandin (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) added a pair of RBIs, using a squeeze bunt to drive in one of the two. Colonials' catcher Chris Torres (1-for-4, 2 RBI) also chipped in with a two-run single for Pittsfield.

Tornadoes' starting pitcher John Kelly (3-2) took the loss after giving-up six runs over five and one-third innings of work. Reliever Dustin Taylors was tagged for two runs over two and two-thirds innings.

The Colonials will head home to Wahconah Park in Pittsfield for a four game, Fourth of July, weekend series against the New Jersey Jackals beginning on Saturday night at 6:05pm. Rookie right-hander Patrick Moran is set to make his first start of the season against the Jackals' Ryan Lobban. The first 1,000 fans through the gates at Wahconah Park will receive a free baseball stress-ball, courtesy of Berkshire Bank.
