Can-Am League Recap

July 2, 2010 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Pittsfield 8, Worcester 3

Pittsfield got a strong start from Trevor Marcotte and a well-balanced offensive attack to beat Worcester 8-3. Marcotte allowed three runs over seven innings, and the offense got hits from eight of nine starters. The Colonials exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth, keyed by a two-run single by No. 8 hitter C Chris Torres and a two-run homer by No. 9 hitter CF Quentin Davis, to build an eight-run lead. Worcester managed to score three times late off of Marcotte, but couldn't make anything happen against two Pittsfield relievers.

Sussex 5, New Jersey 4 (12 innings)

Sussex 2B Joe Persichina motored for a run-scoring triple in the top of the 12th to break a deadlock and edge New Jersey 5-4. Sussex had built a 4-2 lead before the Jackals plated single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to force extra frames. Sussex reliever Jared Locke then pitched three scoreless innings and earned his third win when the Skyhawks took the lead. New Jersey had the winning run at the plate with one out in the bottom of the 12th before Sussex's Tim Stringer induced a game-ending double play.

Quebec 5, Brockton 2

The Capitales cracked two home runs late to take the lead and held off Brockton 5-2. After the Rox had forced a 2-2 tie in the seventh, Quebec DH Sebastien Boucher, the league's leading hitter, hit a go-ahead home run when the team came to bat in the eighth. RF Jared Lemieux followed three batters later with a two-run homer of his own. From there, the Quebec bullpen didn't allow Brockton back into the game. Andrew Albers pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, and lowered his ERA to a microscopic 0.70, and Adam Arnold and Sean Gregory split a scoreless ninth.
