Brockton Rox News Release
Worcester, MA (July 26, 2007) -- The Worcester Tornadoes scored six runs in the sixth inning and six more in the seventh inning in a 13-5 victory over the Rox at Hanover Insurance Park in Worcester, MA. Tornado 3B Mike MacMillan hit a grand slam and drove in six for Worcester. 1B Francisco Lebron and LF John Allen each hit two-run homers in the loss for the Rox. The Tornadoes win gives Worcester a victory in the three-game series as well as a 6-4 season-series victory. RHP Ari Kafka took the loss out of the bullpen for the Rox.
Rox starter RHP Mike McTamney allowed a run in the second but the Rox took the lead in the fourth. Worcester starter RHP Alex Pena gave up a two-run blast to Allen, Allen's third HR of the year and second of the series, as the Rox jumped in front 2-1. Later in the fourth inning, 3B Melvin Falu ripped his second hit of the game, a double to left field, scoring RF Tony Gonzalez from second. In the fifth, Lebron crushed his 11th homer of the year, a two-run shot to center field, his second line-drive shot to center in as many days. The Rox held a 5-1 lead after the longball and took a four-run lead into the sixth.
With one out in his sixth inning, McTamney walked the bases full. He departed in favor of Kafka. With the bases loaded and one out, RF Andrew Wishy hit a fly ball to center field that CF Jeremy Coronado dropped after running into Allen in the gap. Two runs scored after SS Fredy De La Cruz dropped the return throw to the infield, as the Rox committed two errors on the play, allowing two runs to score. Later in the frame, MacMillan took advantage of the errors with a grand slam, his second homer in two days. The Tornadoes scored six runs on one hit and four walks in the sixth inning. They tacked on six more runs as they hit around for the second straight inning in the seventh, with MacMillan droving home two more with a single to center to make it 13-5.
The Rox return home Friday for a three-game series with the New Haven County Cutters and the start of a seven-game homestand. LHP Rolando Viera (6-4, 3.02 ERA) makes the start for the Rox at 7:05 PM.
