New Haven County Cutters News Release
(NASHUA, NH, July 26, 2007) The New Haven County Cutters scored five runs in the final two innings, including three in the ninth off closer Rich Garces (4-1), to erase a four-run deficit in an 8-7 victory over the Nashua Pride in front of 2,187 fans at Historic Holman Stadium on "El Guapo" Bobble Belly Night honoring Garces. For the former Red Sox reliever it was his first loss of the season.
New Haven County got home runs in their late-inning comeback from Chas Terni, his fourth, and Orlando Encarnacion, his fifth, but the game-winning run scored in the ninth inning on a bases loaded fielder's choice ground ball off the bat of Junior Zamora. It looked as if it might've been a double play ball to end the inning but Jeremy Pickrel's take-out slide at second base prevented any chance of a twin killing and allowed Ervin Alcantara to come across with what turned out to be the game-winning run.
Pickrel and Terni each knocked in a pair of runs for the Cutters who took two of three in the series.
Bryan Duplissie belted a three-run homer in the seventh inning for the Pride, his eighth of the season. John Ramistella added two hits and two RBI's for Nashua as the Pride dropped six of seven games on the homestand.
Adam Piechowski (2-1), the third of four New Haven County pitchers, earned the victory by pitching a scoreless eighth inning. Closer Andy Weimer hurled a scoreless ninth inning to post his ninth save of the season.
Pride starter Jason Kosow worked six innings allowing three hits and three earned runs, walking three and striking out two. Angelo Burrows surrendered two eighth inning runs before giving way to Garces.
The Pride open a seven-game road trip Friday night in Lynn, Massachusetts against the North Shore Spirit. RHP Lance Stevens (3-4, 3.32) will pitch for the Pride versus North Shore lefty Joey Siak (5-2, 3.72).
