Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, MA (July 16, 2008) - The Brockton Rox avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the Worcester Tornadoes on Wednesday night as the offense tagged Worcester starter RHP Matt Weagle for eight runs in the first three innings en route to a 9-1 Brockton victory.
The offense was more than enough for Rox RHP Wayne Lundgren who picked up his fourth victory of the season with six scoreless innings of work. He allowed six hits and struck out six, retiring the side in order in three of the first four innings.
For the second consecutive night, the Rox were able to keep a Worcester starter from picking up his league-leading ninth win of the season as Brockton chased Weagle from the contest in the third inning with runners at second and third base and one out. The production was equally distributed through the Rox lineup as seven of the nine starters recorded hits in the first three innings and all nine reached base safely. 2B Melvin Falu extended his hitting streak to 13 games with two hits on the night. It was the 25th time this season that Falu registered two hits or more in a game.
LHP Jacob Ramos relieved Lundren for the start of the seventh inning and allowed the only Tornadoes' run of the game on a bases-loaded walk to RF Scott Grimes. RHP Keith Noe finished the game for the Rox, pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth innings while striking out two.
Brockton turns its attention to former National League Manager of the Year Hal Lanier and his Sussex Skyhawks for a four-game weekend series to begin on Thursday night at Campanelli Stadium. RHP Stevie Delabar will start for Brockton against RHP Justin Knoff for the Skyhawks. Thursday night's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
