Nashua Shuts Down Skyhawks in 14-3 Win

AUGUSTA, N.J. - *Nashua pitching, led by starter Hideki Nagasaka, limited Sussex to four hits, and the Pride offense erupted in a 14-3 win at Skylands Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Nagasaka (6-2) gave up just one hit over six innings of work to get the win. He walked five and struck out eight, while giving up just one run. Sussex starter Mark Michael (2-4) took the loss for the Skyhawks after giving up five runs in 1.2 innings.

Dennis Abreu and Mike Torres each drove in four runs to lead the Pride offensively.

Nashua (23-27) exploded for five runs in the top of the second when the Pride brought 10 men to the plate. The inning featured a triple by Bryan Duplissie and a two run triple by Sandy Almonte, giving Nashua a 5-0 lead.

After scoring a run in the top of the third and another in the top of the fifth, Torres broke the game wide open in the top of the sixth with a bases-clearing double, giving Nashua a 10-1 advantage. Abreu popped a grand slam over the wall in left center in the top of the eighth to make it 14-1 Nashua.

Sussex third baseman Jay Yaconetti was three for three and drove in all three runs for the Skyhawks (26-24).

Nashua returns to action on Thursday at home against Ottawa. Sussex plays the first game of a seven game road trip Thursday night at Brockton. The Skyhawks return to Skylands Park on Friday, July 25 for a 6:30 p.m. game with Brockton. There will be fireworks after the game.
