Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Express pitching staff allowed five runs, all via homers, as the Storm Chasers avoided a four-game sweep with a victory Sunday afternoon. Express starter Randy Wells suffered the loss in the series finale.

Omaha designated hitter Xavier Nady continued his hot streak in the top of the first with a two-run blast down the right field line to give the Storm Chasers an early lead. The visitors added two more runs in the second inning when catcher Adam Moore took a 1-0 pitch from Wells and deposited it into the second deck of the Home Run Porch for the second Omaha two-run homer of the afternoon.

The Express cut Omaha's lead to three in the second inning after designated hitter Joey Butler walked to begin the frame and advanced to second on an errant pickoff attempt by Storm Chaser starter Nate Adcock. First baseman Chris McGuiness plated Butler on a line drive that found its way into left center for the first Round Rock run.

With two outs in the third, right fielder Jim Adduci took Adcock over the left field fence for the first Express home run of the season to pull Round Rock within two at 4-2.

Wells settled in and blanked the Storm Chasers for three innings before exiting the game following the fifth. The right-hander was charged with four runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Second baseman Jurickson Profar started a Round Rock rally in the bottom of the seventh with a walk which was followed by a single by outfielder Aaron Cunningham. Cunningham reached base when his fly ball was lost in the sun and fell in front of Omaha right fielder Anthony Seratelli. After a Mike Olt strikeout, Profar led a double steal to put runners on second and third, bringing the tying run into scoring position. The Express were unable to push across a run as Butler grounded out to third to end the threat.

The Express mounted another two-out rally in the eighth when shortstop Greg Miclat's single was followed by an Engel Beltre double down the right field line. With runners on second and third, Profar worked a walk to load the bases for Adduci, but the left-hander struck out swinging.

Seratelli added an Omaha insurance run in the top of the ninth with a solo shot to right field off reliever Yoshinori Tateyama, making the score 5-2.

Omaha reliever Everett Teaford picked up the win after logging 2.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and right-hander Michael Mariot earned the save with a scoreless ninth.

The Express will open a four-game series with the Iowa Cubs at Dell Diamond Monday, April 8 with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Express starter Collin Balester (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will be opposed by right-hander and former Rangers farmhand Barret Loux (0-0, 0.00 ERA). Monday will also feature $1.00 hot dogs and sodas all night long, presented by Mrs Baird's. For tickets and more information, visit www.RoundRockExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255.
