Round Rock Express News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - Chad Tracy's sixth-inning solo home run snapped a 1-1 tie, and Oklahoma City never trailed again as the RedHawks defeated the Round Rock Express 6-3 Wednesday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Round Rock (2-5) has dropped two straight against Oklahoma City (4-3) after winning Monday's series opener.
Leading 3-2, the RedHawks tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Round Rock tried to rally in the ninth, getting a one-out RBI single from Jason Castro. However, Willie Eyre induced a game-ending double play from Andrew Locke.
Oklahoma City starter Brandon McCarthy (1-0) earned the victory; he allowed one run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts over 7.0 innings.
Roy Corcoran (0-3) was saddled with the loss, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 2.1 innings. Starter Gustavo Chacin lasted 4.2 innings and surrendered one run on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Justin Smoak's first-inning RBI single gave the RedHawks the game's first lead. Round Rock tied the game in the fifth on DeLome's RBI groundout. After Tracy's solo homer in the sixth snapped the 1-1 tie, the RedHawks plated another run in the seventh on Esteban German's sacrifice fly.
The Express cut the lead back to one run on Collin DeLome's eighth-inning solo homer, but the three-run eighth gave Oklahoma City its largest lead of the day. Max Ramirez plated the first run on an RBI single, and Craig Gentry added a two-out, two-run triple.
Oklahoma City out-hit Round Rock 12-5 on the day. Gentry was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Tracy, Ramirez and Matthew Brown each collected two hits.
Castro, DeLome, Locke, Jason Bourgeois and Chris Shelton each collected one hit for the Express. Shelton has hit safely in each game this season and in nine straight, dating back to last season.
Round Rock and Oklahoma City conclude their four-game series Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch. It will be dueling southpaws as Andy Van Hekken (1-0, 0.00 ERA) takes the mound for the Express opposite RedHawk left-hander Michael Kirkman (0-0, 7.20 ERA).
The Round Rock Express, owned and operated by Ryan-Sanders Baseball, LP, is the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros and a member of the Pacific Coast League.
