Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers watched another lead fall by the wayside in a 5-2 loss to Sacramento at Cheney Stadium on Wednesday.

The River Cats battled back from a 2-0 deficit with a combined five runs over the seventh and eighth innings to erase another Rainiers lead in the series.

Catcher Josh Donaldson got things going for Sacramento in the seventh with a two-out solo home run that was followed by a two-RBI single from second baseman Eric Sogard three batters later. With two outs left in the eighth, the River Cats scored three more times off a two-RBI triple from Michael Taylor, bolstering a lead that would already prove insurmountable for the Rainiers on Wednesday.

Infielder Josh Wilson and catcher Josh Bard were two bright spots in an otherwise slow night at the plate for Tacoma after driving in one run each.

Sacramento starter Sam Demel earned the win in the come-from-behind victory for the River Cats. The right-hander gave up one hit with two strikeouts through one inning of relief work over the fifth and sixth.

Reliever Levale Speigner was credited with the loss after giving up four of the River Cats runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Rainiers starter Luke French was left with a no decision despite allowing just one run and six hits over 6.2 innings in his second turn in the rotation this season.

The Rainiers enter Thursday's series finale with the River Cats hoping to avoid the series sweep and a fourth consecutive loss when they send starter Steven Shell to the mound to face Sacramento lefty Lenny DiNardo at 7:00 P.M..
