Iowa Cubs News Release

After beginning the season on the disabled list for the Chicago Cubs, Ted Lilly made a rehab start Tuesday night for the Iowa Cubs, leading the team to a 5-2 win over Memphis at Principal Park. In four innings of work, Lilly surrendered only one hit, a solo home run to Tyler Greene in the first inning. On a strict pitch count, Lilly gave up one hit, one run and one walk, while striking out four.

Lilly gave way to Jay Jackson, who was the initial scheduled starter for the evening. Jackson pitched brilliantly in relief, going five innings, while surrendering only two hits, one run, one walk and striking out four. Jackson picked up the win and improved his season record to 1-1.

In a one run hole following Greene's first inning home run, Iowa answered in their half of the first. Jim Adduci drew a one-out walk, and was singled in by Micah Hoffpauir in the next at bat to even the score. The Cubs then took the lead in the bottom of the third inning on a two-out single by Bobby Scales, scoring Matt Camp, giving the Cubs a 2-1 edge.

In the bottom of the fifth, the I-Cubs sparked a two-out rally that began on a walk by Hoffpauir. Bryan LaHair and Scales hit back-to-back singles, loading the bases. Brad Snyder drew a bases-loaded walk, followed by a two-run single the other way by Chris Robinson, increasing Iowa's lead, 5-1.

The Memphis Redbirds were able to muster one more run in the top of the sixth on a solo shot by lead-off man, Jon Jay, to make it a 5-2 game, and that is the way it would stay.

Starter Lance Lynn (0-1) was erratic all night and was tagged with the loss for the Redbirds. He pitched 4.2 innings, surrendering four hits, four runs, while walking five and striking out two.

Tomorrow is get-away day as the Iowa Cubs look to win their first series of the season. First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m. Former Iowa Cub LH Rich Hill (1-0, 1.50) is scheduled to start for the Redbirds. He will be opposed by Thomas Diamond (0-0, 1.80) for the Cubs.
