NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds return to historic Greer Stadium this Friday, April 16 to kick off the home portion of their 2010 schedule with a promotion-packed eight-game homestand. The Sounds host series against the division-rival Iowa Cubs and Oklahoma City RedHawks after beginning their campaign with an eight-game road swing.

Nashville mayor Karl Dean will throw the season-opening ceremonial first pitch and the legendary Oak Ridge Boys will perform the national anthem prior to Friday's 7:05 p.m. home opener against Iowa, who are managed by 2005 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and longtime Cubs fan favorite Ryne Sandberg.

The first 5,000 fans through the turnstiles on Opening Night will receive a free Sounds magnet schedule, courtesy of ICEE. The first Firestone Friday Fireworks show of the year will immediately follow the game.

On Saturday, the Sounds and Cubs will play game two of the four-game series at 6:35 p.m. Gates open at 5:05 and another postgame fireworks extravaganza will follow the on-field action.

Sunday's afternoon game will be at 2:05 p.m. with gates opening at 12:35 p.m. It will be a Purity Sundae Sunday with $1 ice cream sundaes available at Greer Stadium. It will also be Sounds mascot Ozzie's birthday party, with several other local mascots on hand at the ballpark as part of the celebration.

Monday's 7:05 p.m. series finale against the Cubs is Dollar Dog Night, when hot dogs are only $1 at concession stands.

On Tuesday, April 20, the Oklahoma City RedHawks - the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers - come to town for the 7:05 p.m. opener of a four-game series. It will be KRAFT Singles Tuesday Night Tickets, when fans will be able to bring in a KRAFT Singles package wrapper/proof of purchase to the box office for a Buy One Get One Free ticket offer.

The second game of the series with the RedHawks will take place on Wednesday during an 11:05 a.m. morning game at Greer Stadium, as thousands of screaming kids will be in attendance for the first of seven scheduled Reading Club games. With nearly 90,000 students from over 300 different schools enrolled in the program, it should be an exciting day at the ballpark. All students will be eligible to win prizes if they have reached "home plate" in the program.

Thursday's 7:05 p.m. contest will be the inaugural Taco Bell Throwback Thursday at Greer Stadium. This fun, new promotion for 2010 features Sounds players wearing retro 1980s-style uniforms. Fans will have the opportunity to enjoy concession stands filled with discounted pricing, such as $2 beer, $2 soft drinks, $2 hot dogs, $2 popcorn, and $2 nachos. College students will receive $5 admission to the game with presentation of a valid college ID.

Thursday night is also Roy Orbison Night at Greer Stadium. As part of a weeklong celebration of legendary singer Roy Orbison's birthday, the first 1,000 fans through the turnstiles will receive Roy Orbison sunglasses. Also, a selection of lucky seat winners will be given the Roy Orbison Soul Of Rock and Roll Box Set and a bottle of Pretty Woman Perfume. Barbara Orbison (Roy's widow) will throw out the first pitch and Gibson will donate a limited-edition Pretty Woman guitar.

The Sounds wrap up their eight-game homestand with Friday night's 7:05 p.m. finale against Oklahoma City. The contest will offer another chance for kids to win prizes, as it's the second Reading Club Day of the homestand. As with all Reading Club Days, students will have the chance to participate in an on-field, pre-game parade with Ozzie. Gates open at 5:35 p.m.

Following the homestand, Nashville will travel to New Orleans for a quick four-day road trip before returning to Greer Stadium on Thursday, April 29 to host a four-game series against the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds.

Individual and season tickets, as well as group packages, are currently on sale. Call (615) 690-HITS or visit the Sounds' website at www.nashvillesounds.com to order or for more information.
