Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Alex Cora's first home run with Oklahoma City gave the RedHawks a 5-4 victory over the Round Rock Express in Pacific Coast League action Monday night at The Dell Diamond. The Express (54-76) suffered their eighth consecutive loss against the RedHawks (69-59), who have won each of the series first three games and lead the season series 13-2.
Round Rock tied the game with three runs on two hits and an Oklahoma City error in the bottom of the seventh. Oswaldo Navarro had the game-tying hit, lacing an RBI double over RedHawks center fielder Willy Taveras' head.
However, Cora, who joined the RedHawks last week, belted a 1-1 Gary Majewski offering onto the berm just inside the right-field foul pole. It was his first homer with Oklahoma City.
That made a winner of reliever Willie Eyre (5-4), who suffered his fourth blown save of the season in the seventh. Eyre, who allowed Navarro's game-tying double, did not allow a run but gave up two hits and a walk in 1.2 innings. Starter Derek Holland worked 6.0 innings and allowed a run on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Pedro Strop recorded his 12th save, working around Navarro's two-out single for a scoreless ninth.
Majewski (4-5) took the loss; he allowed one run on two hits and no walks with one strikeout over 2.2 innings. Starter Yorman Bazardo surrendered four runs in 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
Oklahoma City scored three runs on three hits in the top of the first. Chris Davis plated the first run with an RBI double, and Max Ramirez followed with a sacrifice fly. Ryan Garko capped the inning with a two-out RBI single. Davis Walked with one out in the third and later scored on Hernan Iribarren's RBI fielder's choice.
Navarro, who collected four of Round Rock's seven hits on the night, put the Express on the board with a two-out solo homer in the third. In the seventh, the Express got a run on a wild pitch and another on an RBI single from Collin DeLome before Navarro's RBI double.
Edwin Maysonet was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run for the Express. Davis was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, while Garko was 2-for-4.
Round Rock and Oklahoma City conclude their four-game series Tuesday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Brian Moehler (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make a rehab start for the Express, while right-hander Guillermo Moscoso (7-6, 5.38 ERA) is scheduled to start for the RedHawks.
