Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Oklahoma City RedHawks (68-59) at Round Rock Express (54-75) Game 128 | Aug. 23, 2010, 7:05 pm CDT | The Dell Diamond | Round Rock, TXNews Radio 1000 KTOK, RedHawks Radio Network | Play-by-Play: Jim Byers

LH Derek Holland (6-2, 1.91) vs. RH Yorman Bazardo (4-4, 3.77)

TONIGHT: Derek Holland returns after a one-game assignment with Texas to make the start in the third of a 4-game series at Round Rock. The RedHawks used 3 homers to produce all 4 of their runs last night in a 4-2 win to take a 2-0 series lead. OKC has won 7 straight against the Express and lead the season series 12-2. The RedHawks have won 3 straight overall and 5 of the last 6, maintaining a 5-game division lead over Albuquerque. The Isotopes are OKC's next stop on this 9-game trip, the final road swing of the regular season.

MAGIC NUMBER DROPS TO 12: The magic number for OKC to eliminate Albuquerque is 12. Albuquerque beat New Orleans 7-4 last night to remain 5 games back of the RedHawks in the American South. OKC, Albuquerque and New Orleans have all had a game cancelled without the possibility of a makeup, so they will play 143 games barring further postponements.

IRIBARREN EXTENDS STREAK EARLY: Hernan Iribarren tripled in last night's first inning as part of a 3-for-4 game, extending his hitting streak to 11. During the streak, which is his longest of the season and fifth-best on the team this year, he's 20-for-42 (.476). Iribarren has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 dating to Aug. 5, going 29-for-65 (.446) with 3 homers and 15 RBIs in that span. Since Aug. 5, Iribarren features the PCL's third-best batting average behind Iowa's Marquez Smith (.449) and Portland's Mike Baxter (.448). Iribarren has lifted his batting average from .240 to .273 in the last 17 games.

TAVERAS, TOMLIN NOTCH FIRST REDHAWKS HOMERS: Willy Taveras hit his first home run of the year last night, a solo shot in the third inning. It was Taveras' first homer of 2010. He has seen time this year in the majors with Washington and in Triple-A with Lehigh Valley and Gwinnett. Taveras' lone homer of 2009 came as a Cincinnati Red on May 7 off Milwaukee's Braden Looper. James Tomlin connected on his first Triple-A homer last night off Sergio Perez in the eighth inning. Tomlin hit 5 this year at Double-A Frisco.

PITCHING LEADERBOARD: The RedHawks maintain the PCL's best ERA at 3.83. Omaha is second at 4.09. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (84) in either affiliated Triple-A league, 18 fewer than the closest PCL team, Tacoma. The only team to have more than a 2-homer game against the RedHawks is Iowa, which collected a pair of 3-homer games and one 4-homer contest in the season series.

ODDS AND ENDS: OKC is 3-14 on Monday this season...last night's 2 triples matched OKC's season high, accomplished two previous times...both of last night's were in the first inning.
