Spokane Chiefs News Release
Vancouver, B.C. - The Spokane Chiefs wrapped up a three-game road trip on Sunday night with a 5-3 loss against the Vancouver Giants.
The Giants got on the board first with a goal from Roberts in the first period, assisted by Cull and Langkow. Vancouver would score in the second to make it 2-0 as Roberts and Leslie provided the assists on the Schmidt goal.
Conner Roulette would bring one back for Spokane just three minutes later with assists from Owen Martin and Owen Schoettler.
For Roulette it was his fifth goal of the season and for Schoettler it was his first WHL point of his young career.
Vancouver would score twice more to make it 4-1 before Conner Roulette continued his hot night.
Martin tallied his second assist of the night while Bonni added a helper as well.
Spokane continued to push the momentum and at the 10:48 mark it was Roulette making the key pass this time.
Roulette's shot off the faceoff bounced right back to him and the over-ager calmly found newcomer Layton Feist for the easy put-away, making it 4-3 in the third. Spokane would pull Dawson Cowan and add the extra attacker with just a few minutes left to play, pushing for the tying goal.
A rare turnover for Berkly Catton at the blue line resulted in Vancouver bearing down on the empty net where Thorpe finished the game off for the Giants, making it 5-3 at 18:42.
It was a hotly contested game as the Chiefs went 0-5 on the power play and 3/4 on the Penalty Kill. Five penalties were called after the final whistle as frustrations spilled over. Cowan made 32 saves on the night with both teams firing 37 shots on goal.
Up next, the Chiefs will return home for Boomer's Birthday Bash presented by Centennial Hotels on Friday, and Avista 'Way To Save' Team Poster Giveaway and Post Game Autographs on Saturday. Saturday is also Fright Night with fans encouraged to wear costumes and trick-or-treat when they enter the arena.
