Regina Pats News Release
Swift Current, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos defeated the Regina Pats 2-1 on Sunday afternoon inside the InnovationPlex.
The Broncos held a 1-0 lead throughout the majority of the game, after Tyson Laventure scored unassisted in the dying minutes of the first to put Swift Current up 1-0. That lead stood after one and two periods of play.
Clarke Caswell would redirect a centering pass from Laventure with 5:50 left in the third to put the Broncos up 2-0 before Zackary Shantz got Regina within one a minute later, at 2-1.
The Pats tied the game shortly after, but the goal was waved off as the officials ruled that Tye Spencer high-sticked the puck as he wacked it out of mid air and into the net. The was the second of two goals waved off as Valis scored with 32 seconds left in the second, but after further conversation, the officials ruled goalie interference as Sam Oremba went crashing into the net, taking out the Broncos goaltender.
Ewan Huet made 18 saves on 20 shots in the loss, while Reid Dyck stopped 23 of 24 in the Broncos win.
THEY SAID IT
I thought we played a really good game tonight. We didn't get rewarded for a lot of the hard work and good defence that we played. I thought our penalty kill was excellent. It kept us in the game. We did take a few penalties but our guys were up to the challenge. I think overall, we played pretty good game. If you look at the last six or seven minutes of the game, we started to play a lot more desperate and it showed as we played in their end of the rink. A bounce here or there, and a little luck, and it would have been a tie game. - Regina Pats Assistant Coach Ken Schneider
