San Antonio Missions News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Missions concluded their six-game homestand with the Frisco RoughRiders on Monday night. Frisco's offense came to play from the get-go. Five extra-base hits including two home runs highlighted a double-digit outburst for the RoughRiders. With the 11-3 win, they secured a series split.
Evan Carter jumped on San Antonio starter Efrain Contreras right away. As the second batter of the game, he belted a solo home run to right-center field. Contreras responded well by setting down the next two RoughRiders, but Frisco began the game up 1-0.
The Missions answered against Frisco starter Dane Acker in a flash. Ripken Reyes and Michael De La Cruz legged out consecutive triples that tied the game without an out in the first. Acker managed to stand De La Cruz at third, so the Missions earned just one run.
Frisco's offense got back to work in the second. Aaron Zavala doubled before Nick Tanielu singled to put runners at the corners with nobody out. After a mound visit, Josh Hatcher smashed an RBI single and Scott Kapers drove a run in with a sacrifice fly. Contreras limited the damage there, so Frisco took a 3-1 lead.
The RoughRiders continued to churn in the third. Two singles started the inning, and a throwing error allowed one to come home while two runners reached scoring position with no one away. Zavala knocked one in with a sacrifice fly while Tanielu brought the other across with a triple. With a 6-1 lead in hand, Frisco forced Contreras out of the game.
Jose Quezada took over on the mound, but a new pitcher didn't slow Frisco down much. Hatcher earned another run-scoring single, but Quezada did induce an inning-ending double play. Still, Frisco saw their advantage balloon to 7-1.
In the bottom of the third, the Missions started their climb back. Juan Fernandez skied a ball deep to left-center, and both outfielders saw it drop between them. The miscommunication while recovering the ball lasted for several seconds, allowing Fernandez to hustle all the way home for an inside-the-park home run that made it 7-3 Frisco. For the Missions, that was their first inside-the-park home run since June 22, 2022, when Connor Kaiser hit one in Wichita.
The RoughRiders added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Quezada began the inning by hitting Zavala with a pitch. After retiring the next batter, Hatcher reached base on a fielder's choice with Zavala being forced out at second. Kapers was hit by a pitch to extend the inning, and Biggers made the Missions pay with a three-run home run to right field. His fourth long ball of the year made it a 10-3 ballgame.
After a leadoff double off Blake Cederlind in the sixth inning, Kellen Strahm eventually scored on a Hatcher sacrifice fly. That was Hatcher's third RBI, and it made the game 11-3 in favor of Frisco.
