FC Tulsa News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- The Tulsa Roughnecks traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado on Saturday, July 13th at Weidner Field to take on the Colorado Springs Switchbacks.
The match started fast with both sides feeling each other out looking for the early goal. In the 10th minute, Mallan Roberts forced a save from Andre Rawls that was tipped over the crossbar. The match then slowed down as each side settled as the Tulsa Roughnecks looked to protect their clean sheet and attack quickly on the counter. Cyprian Hedrick was called up multiple times throughout the half to make crucial tackles in his own box, but the Tulsa Roughnecks back line looked solid and determined. The half ended all square at 0-0.
The second half began with Tulsa Roughnecks alterations and the home team pushing for the goal that would give them the lead. In the 59th minute, Cyprian Hedrick was questionably booked on a tackle near the Tulsa Roughnecks corner flag. The freekick that followed was crossed into the six-yard box, finding Shane Malcolm. Malcolm then headed the cross into the back of the net giving the Colorado Springs Switchbacks the 1-0 lead in the 61st minute. The Tulsa Roughnecks had an opportunity in the six-yard box to level the score in the 82nd minute, but were unable to get their shot past the Switchbacks backline. The match ended with the Tulsa Roughnecks putting the ball in the box at every chance, but were unable to find the equalizer. The match ended 1-0 leaving the Colorado Springs Switchbacks victorious.
The Tulsa Roughnecks have a bye week the weekend of July 20th, but are back home Wednesday July 24th to take on LA Galaxy 2.
