MONTCLAIR, NJ - Atlanta United 2 lost 8-1 to New York Red Bulls II Saturday at MSU Soccer Park. Atlanta United Academy players Brandon Clagette and Will Reilly made their professional debuts while Jackson Conway scored his second goal of the season.
New York found the opening goal in the 19th minute when Christopher Lema scored with a shot into the bottom left corner. Red Bulls II added a second goal in the 21st minute when Mathias Jørgensen buried a close-range shot into the bottom right corner. Sean Nealis headed in a third in the 22nd minute off a cross from John Tolkin and Stroud scored in the 39th minute.
New York added four more goals in the second half. Conway pulled one back for Atlanta in the 65th minute. Andrew Carleton played Conway in behind Red Bulls II's backline down the right flank where the 17-year old buried a right-footed shot from a tight angle into the center of the net.
ATL UTD 2 (3-10-4, 13 points) returns to action Saturday, July 20 against Birmingham Legion at 8:00 p.m. EST at BBVA Field. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
