New Mexico United News Release

(FRESNO, California) New Mexico United fell to Fresno FC, 2:1 on Saturday evening. New Mexico United's Justin Schmidt scored his first career goal, his side's only goal of the evening.

In the 18th minute, Referee Matthew Thompson awarded Fresno a penalty kick, and Jemal Johnson notched the first goal for the hosts. New Mexico's Chris Wehan answered by creating a handful of dangerous chances for his squad, but it wasn't until the 40th minute that United was able to convert one of his offerings. His set piece ball found Santi Moar, who nudged the ball along to Defender Justin Schmidt, and the center back netted it.

Fresno scored their second in the 48th minute, when Juan Pablo Caffa's corner found Mickey Daly's head. Second half substitutes Tommy Madden, Ken Akamatsu and Daniel Bruce brought fresh legs, and fresh ideas for United, but an equalizer escaped them.

Up Next: United will take on Cardiff City FC in an international friendly on Thursday, July 18.
