
Rising FC Too Much for Toros at Home

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (5-9-5, 20 pts.) fall to hot Phoenix Rising FC (11-2-5, 38 pts.), 0-1, on Saturday night at H-E-B Park.
The Toros kicked off the match with two back-to-back attempts by Carlos Small and Sam Junqua in the 3rd and 4th minute of the game. Unfortunately, both attempts didn't end up in the back of the net. The Rising struck in the 8th minute after Jose Aguinaga took a right footed shot from the center of the box but shot out wide.
Houston Dynamo loanee, Tyler Deric, was tested again in the 11th minute after James Musa took a shot from outside the box but sent it past the crossbar. Phoenix continued to test Toros keeper with a shot from Solomon Asante when he took a right footed shot from outside the box, but Deric managed to save it in the top left corner of the goal.
In the 32nd minute, Asante committed a foul where Isidro Martinez took the lead on the set piece. Martinez sent the ball to Dynamo loanee, Eric Bird, where he took a left footed shot from the center of the box, but Rising's defensive line headed the shot away.
During the stoppage time, Kevin Rodriguez sent a ball to Small where he shot from the center of the box but was blocked.
Phoenix attacked early in the second half when Asante took a left footed shot from outside the box but unfortunate for the Rising, Deric saved the shot in the top right corner.
In the 53rd minute, Small took on the defending line where he shot but hit the right post and went out. Three minutes later, Dynamo loanee, Memo Rodriguez, took a left footed shot from outside the box but keeper Zac Lubin managed to deflect it out.
The Rising FC got a lead in the game when Asante sent a cross inside the box to Adam Jahn where he headed the ball from the center of the box to the top right corner past Deric, 0-1.
RGV FC attacked as Rodriguez sent a shot from outside the box but was sent too high and wide to the right side of the goal in the 77th minute. In the 81st minute, Wilmer Cabrera sent a pass to Small where he shot from outside the box but was saved in the top left corner by Lubin.
Following a astbreak in the 84th minute, Jahn sent a through ball to Junior Flemmings. Flemmings then took a left footed shot from the left side of the box but missed to the right. During stoppage time, Flemmings took Deric one on one but Deric managed to save the shot in the center of the goal.
RGV FC ended the night with 12 total shots and two shots on target. Phoenix Rising totaled 14 shots and five on target.
Deric totaled four saves for the night. Kyle Adams totaled four clearances, one tackle, two interceptions along with one block. He also ended the night with a 91.9 percent passing accuracy.
Martinez totaled four interceptions, one tackle, clearance and block along with two key passes. He ended the night with an 82.1 percent passing accuracy in 39 total passes.
Small totaled five shots and one on target. He also contributed two key passes and two tackles.
RGV FC returns to H-E-B Park on Saturday, July 20 as they host Sacramento Republic FC. The Last match of the three-game home stand will kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT. The match will be available on ESPN+ and Somos El Valle 5.2.
