EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC is set to host Eastern conference side Loudoun United FC FC at H-E-B Park on Saturday evening, kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm CT. Both sides are playing their final regular season contest in 2023.
The Toros were officially mathematically eliminated from playoff contention on Friday night following New Mexico United's 4-1 victory against Memphis 901 FC. The result left the Toros (9-11-13, 40pts) out of range of the eighth and final playoff position, currently held by El Paso Locomotive FC on 44 points.
RGV FC was closely following New Mexico United's contest on Friday night. The side needed a loss from its fellow Western Conference side against Memphis to keep its playoff hopes mathematically alive going into its final regular season contest against Loudoun United FC, scheduled for Saturday night at 7 p.m. CT at H-E-B Park.
This marks the first time the Toros have missed the postseason under Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera, who had previously led the side to three USL Championship Playoffs appearances, first in 2016 and subsequently in the past two seasons after returning to Edinburg for a second stint at the club. RGV FC reached the Western Conference Semifinals in the 2021 season, while reaching the Western Conference Quarterfinals a season ago.
Wilmer Cabrera and his side look to close out their home schedule and overall, 2023 USL Championship competition schedule, with a victory to reward their fans for a loyal season. The locker room was unified in their desire to perform at their best to close out the year and walk off the pitch with their heads held high in front of their faithful.
