Calgary Roughnecks News Release
CALGARY- The Calgary Roughnecks Kaleb Toth, Andrew McBride, and Mike Carnegie are now officially Athlete Ambassadors for Right To Play, one of the leading international humanitarian and development organizations which uses the power of sport and play to build essential skills in children and thereby drive social change in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world.
The Roughnecks and Right To Play are celebrating their 10th Anniversaries this year, and each organization has achieved remarkable feats individually in the short time since they have been founded. Working together will only benefit each organization's present and future success in making sure each child is given the chance they deserve through the power of sport and play .
Mike Carnegie expresses how vital sports are from a young age, "Sports show the importance of tolerance, communication and reasoning among different individuals. All children should be afforded the opportunity for sport and play, because it creates a healthy lifestyle and an outlet from the challenges of life."
Every Right To Play Athlete Ambassador shares the values of the organization and serves as role models for children around the world; there are currently more than 350 athletes from 51 countries representing Right To Play and the Roughnecks are honored to be added to that list.
Toth is inspired by Right To Play's vision, as he knows firsthand how vastly sport has affected his life. "Sport taught me the importance of being a part of a team and acting as a team player, teaching me skills that I use in everyday life like discipline, goal setting, teamwork etc."
Mike Accursi (Rochester Knighthawks), Ryan Cousins (Minnesota Swarm), Dan Dawson (Boston Blazers), Tracey Kelusky (Buffalo Bandits), Chris McElroy (Edmonton Rush), and Jim Veltman (retired) are the original six representatives of Right To Play from the NLL. With the addition of Toth, McBride and M. Carnegie, the Roughnecks will be the only NLL team to have three Athlete Ambassadors from Right To Play.
From the greater Calgary area there are currently 17 individual Athlete Ambassadors and the Calgary Stampeders Football Team that stand behind the organization. The majority of the Athlete Ambassadors are Summer and Winter Olympians, including Ambassadors Robyn Regehr and Jay Bouwmeester from the Calgary Flames. We believe that the Roughnecks, Right To Play and Calgarians can all help make a difference in the lives of children around the world.
The Calgary Roughnecks kick off their 10th Anniversary season on January 8th at the Scotiabank Saddledome against the Buffalo Bandits. 2011 seasons tickets are now on sale. For more information call (403) 294-9244 or visit our website at www.calgaryroughnecks.com.
