Calgary Roughnecks News Release

Calgary, AB - Calgary born and bred Derek Tom was today added to the Calgary Roughnecks' active roster.

He replaces Jamie Rooney who, although he was a permanent member of the Riggers squad the entire season, never once cracked the line-up.

"Derek has been working hard all year," said Kurt Silcott, the club's General Manager, "and he's earned the right to be on the active roster for the play-off run.

"He's left-handed, can play both ends of the floor, and will be a valuable asset should we run into a rash of injuries."

Tom, 22, is 6ft. 2in. and weights 190 lbs. His summer team is the Airdrie Knights.

"Jamie, unfortunately for him, got caught in a numbers game," explained Silcott. "We have a lot of depth on our right side and we needed Derek to be available on the left where our depth is not so great."

Rooney, also 22, is 5ft. 10in. and weighs 180lbs.

He's from Arthur, Ontario, and in the summer plays for the Wellington Aces.
